A Love Letter to Women in Music

100% HER

March marks International Women’s Month—a time to honor the resilience, power, and creativity of women around the world. And for me personally, it also marks the three-year anniversary of my single “Are You That Somebody.”

Back in March 2021, I had the honor of being featured on the 100% HER compilation album, a project that holds so much meaning—not just because of the music, but because of the mission behind it.

100% HER was created through a joint venture between She Is The Music, a nonprofit founded by Alicia Keys and Ann Mincieli, and the global community shesaid.so. Their goal? To increase visibility, opportunity, and representation for women across every part of the music industry.

This compilation was made entirely by women—composed, produced, mixed, and mastered from beginning to end by an all-female team.

I was deeply honored that my song, “Are You That Somebody,” was chosen as part of this release. It brought a piece of my soul into the fold—a mellow, emotional offering of soft vocals, layered harmonies, and electronic textures that reflect the way I see love, intimacy, and vulnerability.

Lyrically, this song is a reflection of what it means to want love that feels safe, embodied, and real:

“I just wanna love somebody / someone who gon love my body / the way I want my body to be loved…”
That lyric was about ownership—over my body, my boundaries, and how I want to be seen and cared for. It was an affirmation.

“Only love I want is the one that you give / I mean it, mean it…”
That was me expressing what I deserve—intentional love. Not performative, not inconsistent. Real love, grounded in reciprocity.

“Think about my body like the ocean / I know that the deeper that we go the more I open…”
Our bodies carry stories, emotions, memories. I wrote that line thinking about how love can be expansive when it's handled with care.

Being part of 100% HER was bigger than the track—it was a celebration of what women can create when given full trust and space to lead. It reminded me that women’s stories, voices, and creative power deserve to be front and center—not just during Women’s Month, but always.

So, to She Is The Music, to the women behind this project, and to every supporter who’s been on this journey with me—thank you. Thank you for believing in me, for listening, and for allowing my music to live in spaces that amplify the voices of women everywhere.

Only real love can exist.
And that kind of love? It changes everything.

With love,
Samiere
